Transparency

We want to be very clear about the rules and expectations. This is a two-way street. We respect your values, and we expect you to respect ours. Please know what you’re getting into before attending our events. We do our best to keep it PG-rated, but offer no guarantees. After all, this is a public park, and people are crazy. What we can guarantee is that we are taking every effort from heart, soul and mind to build safe and fun environments where we can let loose and enjoy life.

Conflict Resolution

This serves as our anti-harassment policy.

Please note that serious offenses such as assault and theft will be handled by police immediately.

Reporting

You have the right to report anyone that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Find anyone with a Volunteer badge and they will get you to the right place.

Examples of reportable behavior include, but are not limited to:

  • Taking photos without consent
  • Placing hands on someone without permission
  • Following someone too closely
  • Overstaying welcomes, and generally being a creep
  • Illegal activities

Please note that anyone found to have purposely made false accusations against someone will be ejected from the event, and may be banned from all future events. This rule only applies if you are maliciously using our process as a means to bully, harass, intimidate or humiliate someone, or as a joke. This is a serious infraction that undermines victims. We will not tolerate this behavior.

There may also be “Quasimodo” situations, where the accused is simply social incoherent. We will use our best judgement in determining the potential threat of the individual. These conversations can be useful learning moments for some.

Reporters will be given a status update of any decisions made.

Our Process

Anime in the Park has developed a 3-stage system for handling accusations of harassment, bullying, or stalking.

  • Level 1 – Conversation
  • Level 2 – Ejection
  • Level 3 – Police Matter

Level 1 – Conversation

If someone complains to a staff member that you made them feel uncomfortable, or they believe you are harassing or stalking them, a staff member will approach you and inform you of this. Anime in the Park aims to break social barriers and keep it real. We will tell you exactly how you made someone feel. The accuser may choose to reveal their identity or remain anonymous.

Level 2 – Ejection

This is a “two strikes and you’re out” system. Please be mindful of your actions and mannerisms if we have a conversation about your behavior. If we have to remind you a second time, you will be ejected from the event without a refund, and may be banned from all future events.

Level 3 – Police Matter

Anyone who returns from an ejection will be met by police.

Community Safety

All attendees are expected to look out for each other and keep each other safe. Be honest, direct, and vigilant. If you do not feel comfortable approaching a situation, ask for help. If you can’t find anyone wearing a Volunteer badge, reach out to someone nearby. Sometimes situations can be diffused easily, simply by the presence of a 3rd party. If you need anyone to intervene immediately, ask. We are a community and should support each other. If you are not comfortable confronting a situation, find someone who can help.
